We offer classes for beginners right through to advanced. It’s a great way to take your fitness goals to the next level without all the sweating.

What is it?
Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s. Pilates focuses on improving core stability and strengthening and lengthening muscles in the body.

What are the benefits of Pilates?
There are many benefits to participating in Pilates classes and include:

  • strengthening and lenthening the muscles of the body.
  • correcting muscular imbalances
  • improved posture, coordination, balance and flexibility
  • increased body awareness
  • decreased stress and increased relaxation
  • socialising with others in the group

What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?
The reformer is a versatile machine and can benefit those who are not able to lay on the floor for mat pilates. It involves using a range of different tensioned springs to move the bed either with the upper or lower body using straps to pull or the foot bar to push the bed. Benefits of the reformer include increased strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, improved core stability leading to improvements in activities of daily living, and  improved quality of life.

A wide variety of exercises can be completed using the reformer as well as other pieces of equipment including a small pilates ball or magic circle.

What will I expect in a class?
Classes run at mudgeephysio are mat classes. Most of the time will be on the mat on the floor, however modifications are provided to those who struggle to lie on the mat. The class runs with warm up movements, progressing into more challenging exercises for the core, back, legs and arms.
