Developmental Physiotherapy

Developmental Physiotherapy is an activity-based therapy for the treatment of:

  • Delayed motor milestones
  • Plagiocephaly (flattening of the head in babies)
  • Torticollis
  • Toe walking
  • Decreased strength, including core strength
  • Poor co-ordination – Gross motor or fine motor activities
  • Hip Dysplasia or “Clicky hips”
  • Cerebral Palsy or “At risk of”
  • Muscular Dystrophy

Your child may require developmental physiotherapy if they:

  • Are having trouble keeping up with their peers during activities, play or sports.
  • Are more than 3 months delayed in reaching a motor milestone (eg rolling, sitting, walking, jumping) – Please note motor milestones are based on corrected age, i.e. from due date – this adjusts for babies born prematurely
  • Are Toe walking after 18 months of age
  • Have knock knees persisting after the age of 4 years or at any age if asymmetrical (one leg only)
  • Have Bow legs that are severe or asymmetrical
  • Have flattening of the head up until the age of 2 years

In addition to therapy sessions, you will be provided with individualised strategies to assist your child’s development at home and in the community.

No doctors’ referral or diagnosis is required to commence developmental physiotherapy as the physiotherapist will perform a comprehensive assessment to identify.
